Sharp surprises with 70-Inch Quattron HDTV

Because 55-inch HDTVs are so 2010, Sharp just announced the Canadian availability of its brand-new 70-inch screen size class LC-70LE732U TV, the largest LCD TV on the market. This is the Big Kahuna and an impressive new screen size offers 2x the viewing area of a 46” TV, providing an immersive home entertainment experience like none before. Video games, sports, Blu-Ray movies and the Royal Wedding will be larger than life on this new set.

With this introduction, Sharp solidifies its industry-leading position in large screen sizes that bring big screen viewing to the masses, addressing the 60” and above screen size category that is the
fastest growing segment of the consumer market. As consumers gravitate more and more to larger screens to enjoy everything from movies to sports to big-screen gaming, Sharp will introduce several additional 70” models over the coming months.

“No one but Sharp has the capability to deliver 60 and 70” TVs with our level of quality and efficiency,” said Carmine Cinerari, President, Sharp Canada. “Our production capabilities, which include the industry’s only 10th Generation LCD factory, give us a competitive advantage in bringing these large screens to market, in turn allowing Sharp to deliver an affordable cinematic experience to the mainstream consumer.”

Bigger Made Better

Sharp’s proprietary Quad Pixel Technology adds the color Y (yellow) to the 3 colors of R (red), G (green), and B (blue) of the traditional television pixel structure. This technology enables the reproduction of colors that have been impossible to portray using conventional LCD displays, such as the brass color of musical instruments, with enhanced aqua greens and Caribbean blues. The addition of the yellow sub-pixel also allows more light to pass through to the panel. Sharp’s advanced pixel control technology minimizes light leakage while offering a wider aperture to let more light through with lower power consumption. The combination of these factors results in brighter, more vibrant images. Sharp’s Quad Pixel Plus technology enables the processing of images with higher resolution and less jags in diagonal lines.
