Norton: Cybercrime cost Canadians CAD$840 Million in 2010

Viruses, malware, cybercrime and phishing are all forms of cybercrime that continue to victimize hapless users around the world. In Canada alone, Norton approximates that Canadians have been taken for $840 million in 2010 alone. Hit jump for more findings from the 2011 Cybercrime Report.

Norton by Symantec released the findings of its 2011 Norton Cybercrime Report. The report surveyed 12,704 people globally, including more than 500 Canadians, and revealed some shocking figures:

  • Cybercrime cost Canadians CAD$840 million last year
  • More than 7.3 million Canadians fell victim to cybercrime last year
  • Every minute, 14 Canadian adults fall victim to cybercrime
  • Men between 18 and 31 years old who access the Internet from their mobile devices are even more likely to become victims.
