Amped Wireless reveals TAN1 WiFi extender for Windows 8 devices

Amped Wireless announced today that it began shipping the TAN1, the first high power Wi-Fi Adapter designed specifically for use with Windows 8 tablets, Ultrabooks and laptops. The TAN1is a Plug and play solution that provides Windows 8 devices with up to 3x the Wi-Fi range compared to the embedded Wi-Fi adapter. Check out the details after the break.

"With more than 60 million licenses sold as of January 2013, Windows 8 is quickly becoming a success with consumers and businesses. And while there are some great new features for managing Wi-Fi in Windows 8, manufacturers are still compromising Wi-Fi performance for aesthetics and slimmer form factors," stated Jason Owen, CEO, Amped Wireless. "With the TAN1, Windows 8 users now have a true plug and play solution for uncompromised long range Wi-Fi performance that allows for connections to Wi-Fi networks from much greater distances. Home users can roam freely throughout their home without worrying about disconnects or buffering, while business users can connect to Wi-Fi hotspots with ease while at airports or hotels."

The TAN1 features Amped Wireless' award winning high power technology to provide Windows 8 tablets, Ultrabooks and laptops with up to three times greater Wi-Fi range and performance compared to standard embedded Wi-Fi adapters.

The TAN1 connects to the USB port of the device, requires no additional software or driver set-up and provides instant long range Wi-Fi connectivity. It features an elegant, compact form factor that may be used on a flat surface or safely fastened to the edge of a screen with an adjustable clip. It can also be fastened to most tablets using protective cases (the TAN1 is not compatible with Windows 8 RT, Android or iOS devices).

Key Features of TAN1 include:

  • Plug and play solution that provides Windows 8 devices with up to 3x the Wi-Fi range compared to the embedded Wi-Fi adapter
  • High power 600mW Wi-Fi amplifiers and high gain antennas improve Wi-Fi performance
  • Low noise amplifiers for improving Wi-Fi receiving capabilities
  • Adjustable clip to accommodate all tablets and cases
  • Includes Wi-Fi Analytics App for Windows 8 for analyzing and optimizing Wi-Fi networks

The TAN1 High Power Wi-Fi Adapter for Windows 8 retails for $59.99. It can be purchased now at www.ampedwireless.com and will be carried in retail locations nationwide beginning early May 2013.
