Syrian Electronic Army hacked Skype’s blog, Facebook, and Twitter accounts

Skype's Twitter hack message

The Syrian Electronic Army couldn’t wait to start the year with a cyber-attack. This time they took down Microsoft Skype’s Facebook and Twitter accounts and the official blog to call for an end to spying.

The Next Web reports the hacking is a result of the leak made by former U.S. National Security Agency contractor Edward Snowden about the U.S. government’s surveillance program on its citizens through the participation of some tech companies. According to documents from NSA’s alleged Prism program, the agency has backdoor access to spy on Skype audio and video calls, which goes against Skype’s claims that the service can’t be wiretapped.

Skype has reportedly gained control of its Facebook and Twitter accounts and have taken down the hacker messages. We’re posting some of the screencaps The Next Web was able to take below.
