BlackBerry playing to its strengths with Boeing secure phone collaboration

Boeing is creating a super secure and self-destructing smartphone with BlackBerrys help. Called "Black", the device is being developed in conjunction with the resurgent Waterloo, On smartphone maker. BlackBerry president and CEO John Chen said "we're pleased to announce that Boeing is collaborating with BlackBerry to provide a secure mobile solution for Android devices utilizing our BES 12 platform."

Worthy of MI6's Q-Branch, the Black phone will run dual-SIM cards, removable backplates that will allow satellite or cellular connectivity, biometric sensors and a solar power charger. The most Bond-like feature is a case that will enable a self-destruct protocol if the phone is tampered with.

The phone doesn't explode (wouldn't that be cool) but it will destroy all user data and files. As expected with such a specialized device, it won't be made available to the public, but its nonetheless impressive to see them working on features that might someday make it to consumer products.
