Fitbit Force fitness tracker recalled for skin irritation issues

Fitbit is recalling its flagship fitness tracker, the Fitbit Force, because it is causing some users to get skin rashes, which is definitely an issue for a device that's designed to be worn all day and even at night. Existing Fitbit Force units are being recalled and refunds are being issued. Early build issues seem to be a recurring problem for these wearable devices, remember the Jawbone Up was recalled for numerous glitches last year. Perhaps some thorough testing of these devices is required before rushing out to market with them, eh Fitbit? Hit jump for Fitbit's full statement on the matter.

We wanted to provide an update on our investigation into reports we have received about Force users experiencing skin irritation. From the beginning, we've taken this matter very seriously. We hired independent labs and medical experts to conduct a thorough investigation, and have now learned enough to take further action. The materials used in Force are commonly found in many consumer products, and affected users are likely experiencing an allergic reaction to these materials.

While only a small percentage of Force users have reported any issue, we care about every one of our customers. We have stopped selling Force and are in the process of conducting a voluntary recall, out of an abundance of caution. We are also offering a refund directly to consumers for full retail price. We want to thank each and every member of the Fitbit community for their continued loyalty and support. We are working on our next-generation tracker and will announce news about it soon.

Yeah, we'll wait for the next-generation tracker.

I own a Fitbit + sleep and love it. Mt wristband makes my wrist itch every so often. I take it off when I am at my desk bit I do get up and down so I loose those steps when I get up and walk to another desk from time to time. I wanted to upgrade to a Fitbit Force with a scale but I will wait until the band issues are ironed out. I still only have good things to say about this product. I am continue to stand by my choice. Pardon the pun but "Let the FORCE" be with you"
