Apple firing on all cylinders to commemorate Earth Day

Apple is taking Earth Day as an opportunity to really focus on the environment. Retail Store Logos have a touch of green and even employee uniforms are celebrating the event. Aside from a new section on their website and a print campaign, Apple is doing all it can to drum up the importance of the environment. It is also challenging other companies in the industry to follow suit and reduce the environmental impact of their products and processes.

"Our goal is for the best electronics products in the world to also be the best electronics products for the world. We’re proud to be the only company we know of whose data centers are powered entirely by 100 percent renewable energy. Every time you download a song from iTunes or ask Siri a question, the energy Apple uses is provided by sources like solar, wind, and geothermal energy. We’re now powering 94 percent of our global corporate facilities with renewable energy, up from only 35 percent in 2010," said an Apple spokesperson.

Every Apple Retail Store in the world will now take back and recycle any unwanted Apple products, responsibly and for free. In the last 20 years, our recycling programs have diverted more than 421 million pounds of equipment from landfills.

iTunes is also a one stop resource to celebrate Earth Day and raise awareness. The iTunes Store (iTunes.com/EarthDay) explores environmental films, iBooks and podcasts.
