Overview: New and improved Moto G with 4G-LTE

Text and photos by Gadjo Cardenas Sevilla

The Moto G was already a decent smartphone in that it brought great performance and an almost Pure Android user experience to what was an incredibly affordable and accessible entry-level smartphone. For 2014, Motorola's moved the Moto G up a tier and made it a midrange model. Basic specs are the same, but the Moto G now sports faster 4G-LTE data speeds, the ability for expansion via a microSD card slot and some of the software refinements that were unique to the Moto X.

My assessment of the Moto G from last year hasn't changed, it is still an excellent and affordable option that offers most of the best that Android has to offer backed by Motorola's superb build quality and their understanding of which features users want. The Moto G was such a great global success for Motorola (150,000 units shipped in Canada alone) that they developed the Moto E and priced it less while removing some features to bring down price.

The Moto G today is not just a great budget device or contract free option, it is a great smartphone for the majority of users. Battery life remains stellar and user experience and performance is on par with many more expensive devices. Now that 4G-LTE is on tap, there's no longer a bottleneck for streaming media, uploading to social media sites and this makes the Moto G a better option for video conferencing, chats and VoIP applications.

The updated features come at a price. The Moto G costs $224-$225 depending on which carrier you're getting it from, this is still $100 less than a Nexus device and still a good deal for a majority of people looking to buy a solid device off contract.

So in other words, you dont really have the device. You are just speculating on what everyone else knows! Thanks for the wasted click.

Northwest....If you simply read the full hands on test of the older Moto G and add the LTE capability and Micro SD slot to the test of the older Moto G....a genius soothsayer you do not have to be to write a 100% accurate review of the new version. Everything else from the older G remains the same. A new hands on review of the new G LTE is not needed to give a true and accurate evaluation of the new G...
