Apple recalls iOS 8.0.1 update to investigate reported issues

As with any new massive software update, there will be bugs and issues affecting some users. In the case of the iOS 8.0.1 update that was recently made available, Apple has heard user's woes and has pulled the update for the time being so it can focus on finding any bugs and squishing them. Below is Apple's official statement on the matter plus a list of fixes pertinent to iOS 8.0.1.

What are the issues? It seems that some users are experiencing breks in cellular connectivity as well as Touch ID support issues.

“We have received reports of an issue with the iOS 8.0.1 update. We are actively investigating these reports and will provide information as quickly as we can. In the meantime we have pulled back the iOS 8.0.1 update.”

FYI, here are the benefits of iOS 8.0.1 which will likely still be available once this version is patched and re-released.

This release contains improvements and bug fixes, including:

• Fixes a bug so HealthKit apps can now be made available on the App Store
• Addresses an issue where 3rd party keyboards could become deselected when a user enters their passcode
• Fixes an issue that prevented some apps from accessing photos from the Photo Library
• Improves the reliability of the Reachability feature on iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus
• Fixes an issue that could cause unexpected cellular data usage when receiving SMS/MMS messages
• Better support of Ask To Buy for Family Sharing for In-App Purchases
• Fixes an issue where ringtones were sometimes not restored from iCloud backups
• Fixes a bug that prevented uploading photos and videos from Safari
