BlackBerry: We're not talking to Samsung about possibility of purchase

Debunking a number of reports that they are in talks with rival Samsung for a possible buyout. BlackBerry issued a brief statement explaining that the reports are erroneous and that they have not engaged in talks with Samsung. Below is the short and sweet statement.

BlackBerry Limited is aware of certain press reports published today with respect to a possible offer by Samsung to purchase BlackBerry. BlackBerry has not engaged in discussions with Samsung with respect to any possible offer to purchase BlackBerry. BlackBerry's policy is not to comment on rumors or speculation, and accordingly it does not intend to comment further.

News of the supposed discussions between the two companies surfaced today, and as a result of these speculations, BlackBerry stock price surged right before the closing hour of the stock exchange. BlackBerry has been partnering with Samsung on various features pertinent to their phones and did use Samsung products to demo BBM on Android Wear a week ago during CES.

When BlackBerry was in the throes of its restructuring process last year, it allegedly approach various potential buyers and Samsung was one company mentioned in those negotiations which dd not come to fruition as BlackBerry decided to continue its business by focusing on enterprise.
