Samsung asks global partners and to stop Galaxy Note7 sales and replacements

The Samsung Galaxy Note7 has been in the news for all the wrong reasons. We've not even had a chance to review this flagship handset but have already published multiple posts regarding various dangerous fires and explosions due to faulty batteries. Even as the company tried to get in front of the issue and kicked off a global replacement program. Well, after some of the replacement units started exploding it seems that the issue is bigger than many thought.

Samsung has just issued a statement asking all global partners to stop sales of replacement Galaxy Note7 units and has also asked all, "Canadian consumers with either an original Galaxy Note7 or replacement Galaxy Note7 device should power down and stop using the device. Details of the remedies available for Note7 customers are detailed below."

Samsung says that, it is "working globally with relevant regulatory bodies to investigate the recently reported cases involving the Galaxy Note7. Because consumers’ safety remains our top priority, Samsung will ask all carrier and retail partners globally to stop sales and exchanges of the Galaxy Note7 while the investigation is taking place."

At Samsung Canada we remain committed to working diligently with regulatory authorities, carriers and our retail partners to take all necessary steps to resolve the situation. Canadian consumers with either an original Galaxy Note7 or replacement Galaxy Note7 device should power down and stop using the device. Details of the remedies available for Note7 customers, which will include a full refund at their place of purchase, will be announced shortly.  For more information, Canadian consumers should contact 1-800-SAMSUNG.

As of this point, the Note7, whether an original unit or a replacement, should simply be returned to carriers, retailers or to Samsung for a full refund. Samsung needs to investigate the issue which could take a long time and it seems that owning a Note7 is more trouble than its worth. Consumers should cut their losses and consider another model like the Galaxy S7 or the Note5 or any alternative Android or iPhones available in the market.
