Microsoft opens up Mixed Reality partnerships

Microsoft is on a mission to empower everyone to achieve more, and one of the ways we are doing that is through innovation with the most comprehensive approach to mixed reality- from handheld AR to immersive VR to the world’s first and still only self-contained holographic computer, HoloLens. At this event, we demonstrated how we are invested in mixed reality technology and are continuing the journey with our community of developers, commercial partners and consumers.

Rundown of what was shared:

  • Unveiled the latest device to join our growing family of Windows Mixed Reality headsets, Samsung, and share full pre-order and availability details of all existing headsets launching from October 17.
  • Announced developers can gain access to Windows Mixed Reality SteamVR preview so they can test their existing content, and consumers will gain access to the preview program this holiday.
  • Shared Halo: Recruit, a mixed-reality experience for Windows Mixed Reality devices, will be available to try out in person at Microsoft Stores and coming to Windows Store as a free download on October 17.
  • Welcomed AltspaceVR, one of the leading social platforms for virtual reality, to Microsoft and Windows Mixed Reality.
