Toronto-based Bunz barter startup now has major update on iOS app

Bunz, the app that spawned a bartering movement in Canada, is evolving in a big way with their largest app update to date and a fresh new look to go with it.

It’s been a very big first year in market for the Toronto-based startup with Bunz now available in over 250 cities around the world. Available on the App Store for free, Bunz lets people exchange things they no longer need, for things they do. What’s next, however, is their most ambitious idea yet: The City Network.

City Network fills the gap between people’s online lives and their real lives, by localizing people and information to create a new kind of community resource. Bunz is the place where you find the things you need - from a home to a bike, advice or a helping hand, its all on Bunz.

“It was obvious that these communities needed more in order to thrive and transact and by learning from them we were able to build something truly unique in the marketplace,” said CEO Sascha Mojtahedi. “The most important of these groups now form the backbone of the app, providing access to what city dwellers need most in their lives: housing, jobs, and help with navigating the world.”

Bunz’ app for iOS is available free from the App Store and has a novel, sleek multiple feed UX

where users simply swipe between feeds to access different streams of content. The post flows have also been tailored to ease publishing and enhance discovery.

“The Bunz community has proven itself capable of incredible things, from feeding hungry families to finding lost pets and even reclaiming the renters market,” said Founder Emily Bitze.

Every day, nearly 2,000 people meet in person to participate in Bunz-driven encounters. Bunz is using mobile tech to foster real world connections and bring value back to being a good neighbour. The City Network brings this concept to neighbourhoods around the world.

Bunz originally started as a Facebook Group; a trusted community, supporting creativity and helping one another with life’s daily needs. A series of Bunz-branded Facebook Groups were created to apply the Bunz ethos across unique topics - from homes and weddings to memes and makeup. As these groups grew in membership their effectiveness started to dwindle due to limitations of the Groups model, hence the Bunz app was born.

The Bunz app is available today on the App Store and for free.
