Casper's VR experience is more than just pillow talk

By Sonya Davidson

It started as a fun campaign around the weekend that we had to "spring forward" our clocks. You know, Daylight Savings Time, when it screws up our sleep patterns for a few days. For some of us, it takes a couple weeks to adjust. Casper, has been making news as the online (no retail showroom) memory-foam mattress company, had sent out a fun promotional sleep aid kit complete with a fluffy pillow and a cardboard VR viewer.

The accompanying instructions requested to a download their Nap Simulator App. Curiousity got me and hey, anything to help catch that lost hour of sleep was welcomed. The app was downloaded onto my phone and popped into the cardboard viewer. Pillow propped my head and "why, yes, I am doing work! It's called research!"

It was a fun way to sleep-work and definitely caught my attention to try out the Casper Pillow. I had learned that this pillow was created to have the perfect ratio of squish to support all types of sleeping styles. Through their research they discovered that most people will sleep in different positions throughout the night. Casper wanted a pillow that could adapt to the changes as well as maintaining a comfortable temperature -- who doesn't love a cool pillow? The core of the pillow maintains a comfortable firmness with shorter fibre fill, while the outer cover offers a little more fluff and made with longer fibres for cushioning.

The company has had some pretty clever campaigns to catch our attention. Recently, they had also reached out to insomniacs and encouraged them to call (888) 890-2040 . When you call you have the options to listen to the ocean, wind chimes, the sounds from the 1990s and more. Go listen. It's hilarious!

They had also set up "Snooze Rooms" in the busy downtown streets of Toronto last summer inviting passerbys to book in for a 15 minute nap part of a North American promotional tour.

I had in my mind that this is a quick solution for college/university students and basement apartment dwellers. Although I haven't tried the mattress yet, the pillow has caught my attention and has made me think twice because of the technology, design and research put into this product. I'll need to investigate more.
