Matt Smith, who you might know for his work in Doctor Who, The Crown, and the upcoming Star Wars: Episode IX movie, will be joining Jared Leto in Sony’s adaptation of Morbius. It isn’t clear yet what role the actor will play. This story focuses on Marvel character Dr. Michael Morbius (who Leto will play in the movie), a scientist who suffered from a rare blood disease and attempted to cure himself—but somehow ended up becoming a vampire. His character is part of Sony’s universe of Marvel-licensed characters, that’s why it’ll be a Sony production. Scandinavian filmmaker Daniel Espinosa will direct the film. It’s screenplay was written by Burk Sharpless and Matt Sazama, and will be produced by Avi Arad, Matt Tolmach, and Lucas Foster.
