EvanTubeHD visits Nintendo Switch Playhouse in Toronto

Nintendo Canada recently hosted its annual holiday preview event but this year was a little different. It was the first year they turned an entire historical house on Church Street in Toronto into a multi-level fun house and aptly named it the Nintendo Switch Playhouse.

Brimming with larger than screen life characters, gaming stations with the opportunity to play the latest Nintendo Switch Games including Luigi Mansion 3, RingFit Adventure, and Pokemon Sword and Pokemon Shield all to get us excited for the holiday season. (Hey, Santa, this momma needs the RingFit game!). The supersized Playhouse also extended the fun to a few lucky families to explore and get firsthand experience with the new titles.

One of the biggest highlights was having kid YouTube sensation EvanTubeHD in attendance. Evan is considered one of the biggest YouTube stars on the planet. The 13-year-old has been sharing toy reviews online ever since he was 6 years old. How big of a star is he? How about 11.6 million followers across his three YouTube Channels, big. Judging by the look on my nephew’s face, this was a mega deal. Evan and his family travelled to Toronto recently to meet with fans at the Nintendo Switch Playhouse and we had the opportunity to chat with him during his visit. 

What’s your favourite Nintendo Switch Game?

Evan: My favourite Nintendo Switch Game is probably Mario Odyssey where you can explore the whole entire Mario World. 

What might we not know about the game that you’ve discovered?

Evan: I think what’s really cool about it is that even though you think you’ve played everything there’s still more to discover. It never really ends. 

What do you think about this Nintendo Switch Playhouse?

Evan: Oh, it’s REALLY cool! I love how you can go around and try out all the games and seeing everyone have fun.

You have a lot of fans, especially kids. So, how did you get so famous?

Evan: I think it’s because I was one of the first kid YouTubers so kids that wanted to watch other kids play games came to my channel and that kind of started the whole thing. It’s been a lot of fun.

What tips do you have for kids who want to do what you do?

Evan: Just do what you enjoy and other kids will find you!

How do you find balance between schoolwork and your Youtube channel? Mom and dad always keeping you on track?

Evan: I really gotta keep myself on track. After school I’ll do my homework and then I can have some fun and do something for my channels.

What was the most fun Youtube episode you’ve ever done?

Evan: Oh, there are so many!!! But I think doing the challenges have been pretty fun. We do some pretty crazy stuff. 

If you could jump into any game and be any character you want, who would that be?

Evan: I would definitely want to be one of the characters in Mario Kart. That would be pretty cool driving around.

We noticed you had a Poutine contest on your channel asking fans about what they would put on theirs? Have you tried it yet?

Evan: I haven’t yet but I guess I’ll be trying it while I’m here. I really don’t know what to expect.

What else do you want to do while you’re in Toronto with your family?

Evan: We definitely want to go up the CN Tower and try some of the Canadian snacks, that would be good.
