Samsung launches Galaxy A71, Galaxy A51

Samsung's newest Galaxy A series of phones bring new features that its flagships don't even have yet, including a new macro lens, Infinity-O display, and Android 10 out of the box. The Galaxy A51 and Galaxy A71 headline Samsung's the 2020 Galaxy A series, replacing the Galaxy A50s and Galaxy. We've been given a sneak peek of both handsets at a recent launch in Vietnam.

Both phones sport a similar design with a new L-shaped, quad-camera setup on the back as well as a new Infinity-O display with the punch-hole cutout in the top center of the phone.

The Galaxy A71 has a 64-megapixel main sensor, while the Galaxy A51 has a 48-megapixel primary lens. Both have a 5-megapixel depth sensor, the new 5-megapixel macro lens, and 12-megapixel ultra-wide camera. Housed in the punch-hole for both devices is the 32-megapixel front-facing camera.

Both handsets have an FHD+ Super AMOLED 20:9 display. But the Galaxy A71's screen is at 6.7 inches, while the Galaxy A51 has a 6.5-inch display. The former is believed to run on a Qualcomm Snapdragon 730 processor paired with 6GB or 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage, while the latter runs on the same Exynos 9611 chipset as its predecessor coupled with either 4GB RAM + 64GB expandable storage, 6GB + 128GB, and 8GB + 128GB configurations.

As we mentioned, these midrange Samsung devices will be the first to get One UI 2.0 based on Android 10 out of the box. Samsung has confirmed it for the Galaxy A51, but we're running on the assumption that it's slightly more powerful brother has it, too.

The Galaxy A71 has a slightly bigger 4,500mAh battery with 25-watt fast-charging support, while the Galaxy A51 has a 4,000mAh battery with 15-watt fast-charging support via USB-C.

Both the Galaxy A71 and Galaxy A51 have that gradient finish in the back. With the Galaxy A71 available in Prism Crush Black, Silver, Blue, and Pink; and the Galaxy A51 coming in Prism Crush Black, White, Blue, and Pink.

Samsung already priced the Galaxy A51 at VND 7,990,000, which is approximately CA$452, and it will be available for pre-orders in Vietnam on December 16 with an official launch on December 27. But the company hasn't revealed the price and availability for the Galaxy A71 just yet.

The Samsung Galaxy A50 and Galaxy A70 were available in Canada, so we're keeping our eye out for these two new devices to make their way here.
