New Facebook Messenger users can't use the app without a Facebook account

Facebook used to allow anyone to use the Facebook Messenger app without needing a Facebook account. But now, the company will require new users to have one if they want to use the messaging app. A spokesperson for the company confirmed that this change would only affect new users. Those who already use Messenger won't need to do anything. But VentureBeat reported that some users are experiencing some issues with them being restricted from using the service. The change might be due to Facebook's plans to make its different messaging apps (including WhatsApp and Instagram) interoperable.
