These are the 'Star Wars' productions to look forward to

While The Last Jedi might have concluded the Skywalker saga in Star Wars, there's still a lot to look forward to in the coming years. We hear more about what projects are coming up thanks to announcements during Disney's investor day. Lucasfilm has many Star Wars shows coming up on Disney+, so let's take a quick look at them under the cut.

There will be two new The Mandalorian spinoffs—Star Wars: Rangers of the New Republic and Star Wars: Ahsoka. Both series will be executive produced by Dave Filoni and Jon Favreau. And the shows will crossover with future seasons of The Mandalorian to culminate in a "climactic story event." Rosario Dawson will reprise her role as the live-action Ahsoka Tano.

Rogue One's Cassian Andor (played by Diego Luna) will also make a comeback in his own Disney+ show. Production just started in London two weeks ago. And the 12-episode season will be coming to Disney+ in 2022. (You can check out some footage above.)

The Acolyte is another Star Wars show coming to Disney's streaming service. It will be helmed by Russian Doll creator Lesyle Headland. It is set in the High Republic era, a.k.a. the "golden age for the Jedi."

There will also be an "event series" based on beloved Star Wars character Lando Calrissian. Aptly titled Star Wars: Lando, the show will be lead by Justin Simien—the writer, producer, and director of Dear White People. It isn't known yet if Billy Dee Williams or Donald Glover will reprise their role.

One iconic character we know is making a comeback will be Hayden Christensen's Darth Vader. Hayden will reprise his role for the upcoming Obi-Wan Kenobi show, where he'll co-star again with Ewan McGregor, who will play the titular character. The Disney+ show will take place 10 years after the events of Star Wars: Episode III — Revenge of the Sith. Anakin Skywalker is now Darth Vader, and Obi-Wan is trying to recover from his biggest defeat.

On the animation side, there is Star Wars: The Bad Batch, which focuses on a Bad Batch of clones from The Clone Wars; A Droid Story, which will showcase a new hero along with beloved 'bots R2-D2 and C-3PO; and Star Wars: Visions, an anime anthology series "celebrating Star Wars through the lens of the world's best anime creators."

If you miss watching Star Wars films, there will be Wonder Woman 1984's Patty Jenkins' upcoming flick Rogue Squadron, which will debut in December 2023. She will be the first woman to direct a Star Wars film. The story follows a group of fighter pilots that work to defend good against evil. In the Star Wars universe, Rogue Squadron was founded and led by Wedge Antilles, a skilled pilot who appears in Star Wars, The Empire Strikes Back, Return of the Jedi, and The Rise of Skywalker.

There will also be an untitled Taika Waititi Star Wars movie that was first announced in May and is now in development.

What film or series are you most excited to see?
