Amazon Prime Video to support Canadian BIPOC creators with $1.25m donation
Tuesday, February 9, 2021 at 1:18PM Amazon Prime Video wants to help creators who are Black, Indigenous, and people of colour (BIPOC) in the country through a $1.25 million donation. The streaming service is partnering with the Indigenous Screen Office (ISO) in Canada to help BIPOC creative community that was hard hit by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Part of the funds will go to the Solidarity Fund launched by ISO and partner groups Racial Equity Media Collective and BIPOC TV & Film. And then some of the money will go towards the Canada Media Fund's Indigenous Development Program.
ISO will also partner with Black Screen Office for a new pitch program with Amazon Studios. The studio has already filmed 22 Amazon original series and films in the country. The program will offer 10 grants worth $10,000 to BIPOC creators. You can send pitch submissions through this site, starting today until March 5 at 8 p.m. ET or 5 p.m. PT.
Amazon Prime Video Canada also plans to guide projects early in the development process.
