OnePlus 9 update brings improved camera performance, 'Hasselblad Xpan' setting

When OnePlus launched the OnePlus 9 and 9 Pro, the initial focus of its partnership with camera maker Hasselblad was in the software. So, while we wait for what the custom camera hardware will look like, we get updates like this new one that brings the Hasselblad look and feel to the stock camera apps on these phones.

Both devices are getting an Xpan Mode that replicates the look of Hasselblad's Xpan film cameras. It will include an aspect ratio of 65:21 and a very wide mode with two focal lengths (30mm and 45mm). When you preview a shot, there are frame lines you'll see through the lens of an XPan camera. And when you take a picture, there will be an animation of negative film developing. The update also brings two film simulation effects—color and black and white. Hasselblad is working on the latter with OnePlus.

This update will also bring memory optimization for the camera app, which should shorten the time it loads by half when you launch it. OnePlus plans to reduce the lag in previews and remedy over-sharpening in different auto mode situations, too.

The company is also working on improving dynamic range in low-light conditions. The update will also give you a better chance at capturing moving objects while reducing noise and optimizing HDR frame retrieving algorithms for some scenes.

On top of the camera tweaks, other improvements are coming to the OnePlus 9 and 9 Pro, including wireless charging optimization and the latest Android security patch. You can also expect the firmware update to remedy known issues and improve stability.
