Comixology's Marvel Comics app to shut down in June

Image: Marvel Comics

Comixology's Marvel Comics app will shut down on June 2, following layoffs at Amazon (Comixology's parent company since 2014) that hit the comic storefront hard. If you bought comics on the app, you can access them through the Marvel Unlimited app. May 2 will be the cutoff date for new purchases in the app. Any purchases made up to that date will transfer to Marvel Unlimited.

Android users won't need to do anything to transfer their purchases because the Android app already requires a Marvel account. But iOS users need to open the Comixology Marvel Comics app on their device first, then follow Marvel's instructions to link a Marvel account to the old app. Your old purchases should then appear in the Marvel Unlimited app.

You won't need a Marvel Unlimited subscription to access your purchases from the old app. But Marvel is offering discounts for users who want to subscribe. Marvel Unlimited gives users access to over 30,000 issues from the Marvel universe. But, like Comixology's app, there's a delay of around three months from the issue's initial release and its availability on the platform.
