Meta Quest users can now watch Reels in virtual reality

Reels, the short-form video feature Instagram launched to compete with TikTok, is now coming to Meta Quest, the company’s VR headset. Meta founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced the news on Instagram with a Reel from influencer Austin Sprinz, who explored the world’s deepest pool. The immersive video showcases how Reels can offer a different viewing experience on VR than on mobile or the web.

Users can watch Reels in a window that appears against their virtual background, similar to other apps on the Quest system. According to Instagram spokesperson Tatin Yang, the Reels will appear in the Meta Quest Explore feed and be available to a “small number of people” for testing.

The move is part of Meta’s broader strategy to integrate its apps and systems more closely and to expand its VR offerings. It follows the recent unveiling of the USD 499 Quest 3 device and the USD 3,499 Apple Vision Pro headset.
