Android Auto now adds 3D buildings to navigation by default

More Android Auto users can now enjoy a more realistic navigation experience with 3D buildings, thanks to a new update. The feature is now enabled by default and works in light mode, according to 9to5Google. 

Google Maps has been displaying 3D buildings in some cities for years, but they were not visible during navigation. Now, Android Auto users can see them while driving, which can help them orient themselves better in unfamiliar places.

The 3D buildings are also available on the Maps app for Android and iOS, but Android Auto did not have them until recently. They are transparent and scaled to avoid blocking the view of the road.

The feature does not work in dark mode, however. If users switch to dark mode, the 3D buildings disappear. This is different from when the feature was first introduced, as 9to5Google reported that the 3D buildings were still there in dark mode.

The addition of 3D buildings is not a major overhaul of Google Maps navigation, but it is a nice touch that can enhance the driving experience. Users who prefer a simpler view can turn off the feature in the Google Maps settings.
