Apple to allow default navigation apps on iPhone (EU only)

Android users have long enjoyed the flexibility of setting default apps, while iOS users have faced limitations. However, Apple is making a user-centric shift. Starting next year, iPhone users in the European Union can choose their preferred navigation app, like Google Maps, instead of solely relying on Apple Maps.
This news comes alongside reports of Apple improving data transfer capabilities between iPhone and Android. 9to5Mac confirmed Apple's plans to introduce a dedicated setting for default navigation apps within iOS. This functionality is expected to arrive with iOS 18, but likely remain exclusive to the EU due to the region's Digital Markets Act. The Act aims to promote fair competition in the digital market, and Apple's changes comply with its regulations.
While details are still emerging, navigation apps on the App Store will likely be compatible with this new default functionality.
