Samsung plans generative AI upgrade for Bixby

Samsung is set to boost Bixby's capabilities with generative AI, according to a recent interview with a high-ranking Samsung executive. This move aims to redefine Bixby's role within the Samsung ecosystem.

“With the emergence of generative AI and LLM (large language model) technology, I believe that we have to redefine the role of the Bixby so that Bixby could be equipped with Generative AI and become more smarter in the future,” Won-Joon Choi, executive vice president of Samsung’s mobile business, told the media outlet.

While Samsung has been integrating Galaxy AI features across its apps and services, Bixby has seen less focus on generative AI advancements. However, details regarding the specific implementation remain scarce. It's unclear if Bixby will evolve into a full-fledged conversational AI like ChatGPT or Google Gemini, but Samsung assures it is "working hard" to bring generative AI features to its core assistant.

Previously, Samsung confirmed Bixby's coexistence with Galaxy AI on smartphones. They also highlighted, during CES 2024, how AI would facilitate collaboration between SmartThings and Bixby.
