An internal email from Xbox president Sarah Bond reveals Microsoft is rapidly developing its next-generation console, aiming for the "biggest technological leap ever" in a console generation. This news follows the February announcement confirming the console's existence.

While specific details about the hardware or release date remain under wraps, leaked documents suggest a potential 2028 launch. However, Microsoft's focus on development might push the release date forward.

Beyond the future, the email highlights Xbox's commitment to preserving the past and present. Bond announces the formation of a dedicated game preservation team, emphasizing its importance for Xbox and the industry.

"We are building on our strong history of delivering backwards compatibility to our players, and we remain committed to bringing forward the amazing library of Xbox games for future generations of players to enjoy," Bond said in the email.

While game preservation traditionally focuses on classic titles, the current generation presents unique challenges. Online connectivity requirements and digital formats can render games unplayable once servers shut down. Live service games and microtransactions in single-player modes further exacerbate this issue.
