2020 iPhones might not come with chargers in the box

If the rumours are true, these year's iPhones won't include chargers. iPhones already don't come with wired earbuds, but this time even the power brick might go missing. According to analyst Ming-Chi Kuo and Barclays analysts, only the charging cable will be included in the box.

Kuo believes this decision is meant to cut costs and help offset the higher price of adding 5G wireless technology. At the same time, it would be an eco-friendly approach. Environmental critics have argued that supplying power adapters to users frequently adds to the electronic waste that people accumulate as they upgrade devices. Of course, if you do need one now, you're going to have to buy it separately. But perhaps that extra cost might be enough to offset the number of adapters that end up in landfills.

Is a notchless iPhone in our future?

Is Apple going to introduce a notchless iPhone in 2020? Tech YouTuber Marques Brownlee (a.k.a. MKBHD) points out that the Apple Support's Twitter account features two different kinds of iPhone, with one of them seemingly without a notch. Other Twitter users were saying it could just be because of a glare in the photo. But there have been rumours that at least one of the iPhones coming out next year will do away with a notch.

Of course, we wouldn't get a confirmation from Apple until the company launches the device. But some of the other rumours surrounding the next-generation iPhone includes OLED displays, 5G connectivity, and bundled AirPods. What do you want to show up in the next iPhone?

Report claims Apple might bundle the AirPods with its 2020 iPhones

If the report from DigiTimes is to be believed, then next year's iPhones will come bundled with AirPods. The hit-or-miss Taiwanese publication cites unnamed industry sources, claiming that "smartphone vendors including Apple, Samsung, and Xiaomi are looking to bundle their new models with TWS earbuds next year." TWS stands for "truly wireless stereo" earphones, which includes accessories like the AirPods and Samsung's Galaxy Buds.

We can't say how accurate the report is, especially with how expensive AirPods are and how popular these accessories are on their own. It would be uncharacteristic for Apple to bundle a high-demand accessory. Perhaps a more reasonable rumour would be a more advanced version of EarPods will be bundled with the iPhone. Or only the higher-end iPhone 12 Pro models will get this bundle. The iPhone is at least 10 months away from its launch, so we'll be keeping our eyes out to see if this particular rumour will become true.

The 2020 Apple iPhones will all reportedly have OLED displays

If the reports are to be believed, the next-generation iPhones will all feature OLED displays, but they won't precisely be identical. The lower-end iPhone will have a different screen than the two successors of the iPhone 11 Pro and iPhone 11 Pro Max. Those two premium models will reportedly get thinner, more advanced displays than the iPhone 11 successor that will get a slightly thicker OLED screen.

Samsung will also be the only one supplying the 5.4- and 6.7-inch OLED displays for the iPhones. The company found a way to remove a touch-sensitive layer in its panels to thin them out. Meanwhile, Samsung and LG will split the work on the lower-end 6.1-inch screen. The new iPhones are still many months away, with its usual launch happening in September 2020. But this early rumour is a welcome one with Apple fully embracing OLEDs for its smartphones' displays.
