‘Black Panther’ director open to working on an all-female spin-off of the successful Marvel film

If given the chance Black Panther director Ryan Coogler says he’d want to direct a spin-off movie based on the women of Wakanda. When asked during a talk at the Cannes Film Festival on Thursday about whether the women were just as important as the men in the film, Coogler said, “I think you could argue they are more important.” So when asked if he’d be onboard to directing a film that centers around the characters played by actresses Lupita Nyong’o, Danai Gurira, and Letitia Wright, he said “That would be amazing if the opportunity came up. They did it in the comic book version.”

Now, whether Marvel Studios follows through and does something about this is an entirely different discussion. If you are interested in the female warriors on Black Panther, Sony has partnered with a Nigerian network to produce a television series about the 19th-century Dahomey Warriors, which were the all-female military regiment that inspired the creation of the Dora Milaje.

Kevin Feige confirms ‘Black Panther 2’

Marvel/Walt Disney Studios

Seems like a no-brainer that the box office success Black Panther will be getting a sequel. But now we get official world from Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Feige was quoted saying “We absolutely will do that.” But, as expected, he doesn’t reveal any plot secrets. There is a promise that it will flow organically from the first film because the filmmakers have discussed this even while making the first film.

"One of the favorite pastimes at Marvel Studios is sitting around on a part one and talking and dreaming about what we would do in a part two," Feige said. "There have been plenty of those conversations as we were putting together the first 'Black Panther.' We have ideas and a pretty solid direction on where we want to head with the second one."

Here’s our first look at ‘Black Panther’

If you’re like us who weren’t at Comic-Con International, then you haven’t gotten a look at Black Panther yet. Well, now our wait is over. Marvel has finally released the first official trailer for the film. And it shows us how T’Challa (Chadwick Boseman) is handling being a newly crowned king and Nakia (Lupita Nyong’o) reminding him that “You get to decide what kind of king you are going to be.” The trailer shows us some of the amazing tech produced in Wakanda, which is considered the most technologically advanced country in the world. On top of that we get to see the heavyweights attached to this film, including Angela Bassett (T’Challa’s mother Ramonda), Michael B. Jordan (T’Challa’s Wakandan rival Erik Killmonger), Forest Whitaker (Warrior Zuri), Martin Freeman (Everett K. Ross), and Andy Serkis (Ulysses Klaue/Klaw), to name a few.

Latest Black Panther trailer takes us to Wakanda

Black Panther is the latest Marvel Avenger to get his own movie which is scheduled for 2018. We get to see Andy Serkis (Ulysses Klaue), Everett Ross (Martin Freeman) and T'Challa/Black Panther (Chadwick Boseman) introduce us to the secretive, yet highly advanced, Wakanda, which is Black Panter's home base and where, it seems, most of the action for the movie is set.
