Energizer Hard Case P28K packs in a 28,000mAh battery

Photo: Avenir Telecom

Avenir Telecom is back with a phone unlike any other: the aptly named Energizer Hard Case P28K. It boasts a massive 28,000mAh battery, promising up to a week of regular use on a single charge. This is a phone built for off-the-grid adventures, with a rugged IP69 rating to withstand the elements. Talk time is a staggering 122 hours (over five days), and standby stretches to a mind-blowing 94 days.

However, with great power comes great size. The Hard Case P28K is a thick boi at 27.8mm and a hefty 570g, making it three times thicker and heavier than an iPhone 15. This isn't the phone for those seeking a sleek device.

This Energizer phone has an 18,000mAh battery

Energizer teased this phone ahead of MWC 2019, but in case you haven't seen it yet. Here's a quick look at this brick of a phone from French company Avenir Holdings. The Energizer P18K Pop has a gigantic 18,000mAh battery—and it shows. It basically looks like a power bank attached to the back of a smartphone. What do you get by having this big, chunky boy? You're promised up to 50 days on standby, 90 hours of calls, or two straight days of video. You need a full eight hours to completely charge its battery.

In front, you get a 6.2-inch edge-to-edge display. The lack of a notch is because the camera is hidden and just pops up when you need it (thus, the Pop in its name). It has two front-facing cameras and three at the back. The Energizer P18k Pop runs on a MediaTek Helio P70, Android Pie, 6GB of RAM, and 128GB expandable storage. It also comes with a side-mounted fingerprint sensor, which is wise because trying to wrap your hand around and get to a fingerprint reader in the back isn't ideal. According to a rep from Avenir Telecom, we could expect to see this phone as early as June 2019 with a starting price of around €600 (around CA$900).

Energizer to launch 26 phones at MWC 2019

Having one phone would surprise us enough but Energizer has decided it wants more—they want 26 new phones, in fact. The battery manufacturer is getting into the smartphone game with features like pop-up cameras, a massive 18,000mAh battery, and foldable displays. No, these all won’t be in one phone. According to 9to5Google, Energizer will be releasing four separate lines: Power Max, Ultimate, Energy, and Hardcase. Most of the 26 phones will be part of the Energy and Hardcase lines, which, as you can expect, will be feature phones. The Power Max line will have the 18,000mAh model, while the Ultimate line will get things like the pop-up camera, and teardrop notch displays.

Reports claim that two of the devices part of the Ultimate line are the more premium devices. The Energizer Ultimate U620S Pop and U630S Pop will run on P70 and P22 MediaTek Helio processors, respectively. Both come with motorized dual cameras. The U630S Pop has 16-megapixel main camera with a 2-megapixel depth sensor, while the U620S Pop gets a triple camera setup, with the two other sensors joined by a 5-megapixel shooter. The US630S has a 4GB RAM/64GB storage configuration, while the U620S gets 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. The former comes out in June, while the latter comes out in July. We’re going to have to wait until the end of the month to find out what the other phones are going to be. MWC kicks off on February 25 in Barcelona.
