TELUS to unlock all devices starting Feb 15, for $50

According to Boy Genius Report, Telus will be charging $50 to unlock any handset or device they sell that has a SIM card staring February 15th provided users are,  "active post-paid customers with an account that has been open for a minimum of 90 days." This service is good for iDEN and GSM devices.

The biggest benefit of having an unlocked device is the freedom to insert any working SIM card and use it on that network while maintaining all your contacts, apps and information on your phonew. We hope more carriers get with the unlocking program and offer their customers the freedom they deserve. Hit jump for the full press release.

PayPal pushing mobile payment solutions

PayPal has gone beyond catering to e-tailers and eBay traders and has managed to cap 2009 by introducing ways to pay via Twitter, smartphones and has provided the payment backbone for BlackBerry’s new App World store.

We interviewed Darrell Macmullin, PayPal Canada’s general manager who gamely demoed some of PayPal’s new directions and discussed the companies’ recently released open-source developer platform.

“There’s a whole new suite of payment APIs for developers to create and embed PayPal in applications. The first companies to sign up for these new APIs were Twitter and Research in Motion,” Darrell explained.
