Apple brings back iPod 'Music Quiz' game on iOS 14

Apple is bringing back one of those classic iPod games on iOS 14. The Music Quiz game is now accessible through the My Shortcuts section of the operating system. If you don't remember the game, it's where your iPod plays songs at random and asks you to name them to rack up points. The iOS 14 version only lasts for five rounds, but you can keep playing and share your score on social media—which, of course, wasn't available on earlier iPods.

The Music Quiz only works with the built-in Music app. But it accesses Apple Music, iTunes purchases, and locally-synced songs from other sources. And since it works with the Shortcut function, you can even modify the game to suit your tastes. As Engadget points out, Apple is using the nostalgic title as a way to promote Shortcuts. But if you miss it, here's an excellent way to revisit the game.

These iPhone, Apple Watch models will support CarKey

One of the newest features of iOS 14 turns your iPhone (or Apple Watch) into a car key. This CarKey feature is coming to iOS 14 and even iOS 13 users, allowing you to lock, unlock, and start compatible cars. But just because your device runs on iOS 14 or watchOS 7 doesn't mean it can support it.

CarKey makes use of NFC technology to communicate with the car. During the initial process, the iPhone or Apple Watch needs to be placed on top of the NFC reader in the car. It'll be accessible via the Wallet app. Once set up, CarKey should work without having to unlock your device or open any app. But that means your device needs Background Tag Reading tech, which is only available on the iPhone XR and later. And so this feature will only work with the iPhone XR, iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro, iPhone 11 Pro Max, and iPhone SE (2nd-gen).

iOS 14 can turn your iPhone into a car key

iOS 14 offers a lot of new features for users to take advantage of, but we haven't mentioned the automotive and mobility features the mobile platform offers. Apple is also improving Apple Maps and CarPlay experience with this new version of its operating system.

One of the more notable additions is turning your iPhone into your car's key with the aptly named Car Key. The feature is coming in the fall, with support for iOS 13 as well. It'll first work with the new 2021 BMW 5-Series, with other vehicles and automakers expected to support the feature next year.
