Review: Apple iPhone 4S

Text, photos and video by Gadjo Cardenas Sevilla

We weren't too bothered by the fact that the iPhone 4S looked exactly like its predecessor, the iPhone 4. We had grown to like the sleek yet somewhat fragile glass and stainless steel design, which we still feel is an enduring if not iconic design.

There's still quite nothing like the look and feel of the iPhone 4, many of our sentiments for last year's model still hold for the iPhone 4S. As for the new and revised features, we gave those a proper testing and here's what we found out.

Video: Just how good is the iPhone 4S at recording HD video?

Pretty darn good. The video above was shot earlier today and came straight from the iPhone 4S exported into iMovie. We added a few transitions and titles but the video was not adjusted or altered in any way. Also, this was a handheld shot with me standing and trying to capture the zombies.

SlideShow: Photos taken with the Apple iPhone 4S Camera

Text and photos by Gadjo C. Sevilla

We've had about 24 hours with the iPhone 4S and while our initial interactions with Siri were gratifiying and the faster speed and features of iOS5 and iCloud have changed the way we user our iPhone, it is the camera that's really impressed us. Here are some unedited photos we have taken with the iPhone 4S. That 8MP camera is just superb, arguably the best on any mobile device we've tested. We will pit it against some point-and-shoot cameras  soon to see how it fares against dedicated cameras.

Apple's iOS 5 and iCloud are dropping tomorrow

Apple's one-two punch for improved iOS functionality and cloud services integration will emerge tomorrow, October 12. iCloud will serve as a giant cloud based backup, messaging, sharing and secure storage system that unifies all of Apple's mobile and computer product lines and makes them one connected entity. iOS 5 is the much awaited update to the iOS iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad operating system now with new features like improved notifications, iMessage and numerous refinements on every level of the operating system.

To best prepare for the new cloud ecosystem and iOS update, Apple has started rolling out iTunes 10.5 (get it now) in anticipation of the iPhone 4S release this Friday. All existing iOS users whose devices can take iOS 5 will need to back up their devices (possibly for the last time since iOS 5 ushers in PC-Free syncing!) and then upgrade their devices as soon as the iOS update rolls out.
