Netflix's 'Santa Clarita Diet' satisfies cravings for messy fun

If anything had given me crazy shivers it would be the parcel I had received recently that enclosed a protein bar - actually one that had me almost faint on the spot. A dismembered finger, alongside a smoothie on the go bottle, in a sophisticated box all to give a not so subtle hint about the new Netflix original series Santa Clarita Diet starring Drew Barrymore and Timothy Olyphant that officially premieres today, February 3rd.

Netflix's 'One Day at a Time' reboot brings teachable moments for families

 

When I was growing up family sitcoms were more than just laugh tracks and time for us to have time together. They were also times when I would learn something that my parents may have otherwise felt uncomfortable discussing with us. Now that I look back, the shows definitely led to some conversations that might not have otherwise come up. Also, being immigrant parents there were social and cultural moments in the shows that they may not have been exposed to. We could discuss together. 

So, what happened to family sitcoms over the years? Shows have become more niche and there aren't too many entertaining shows that families of all ages can watch together. TV Family units have changed to reflect the modern day landscape but the teachable moments can still be found.

Android device users can now download Netflix shows on to their SD Cards

Netflix now makes it more convenient to enjoy movies, TV shows and original content on the go for Android users. WIth their latest Android update, Netflix subscribers are no longer limited by their device’s onboard storage and can now download the content into their MicroSD cards. Of course, this feature is moot if you have Nexus or Pixel device, or similar devices that don’t have expandable storage. It’s great to see Netflix giving users the ability to use expanded storage to enjoy shows offline.

Guillermo del Toro's "Trollhunters" to launch over the holidays exclusively on Netflix

 

Did I mention that my kids don't go back to school until January 9th? I'm sure I'll be needing the rest after hosting both sides of my family for Christmas dinner that will include little ones running around singing Jingle Bells. I know I'll be needing some peace and quiet! But once the presents have been opened and the cookies have all disappeared, many parents will be looking to fill up some downtime with their kids. This has definitely caught my attention...
