Microsoft and Nokia rumoured to be working on Android-powered Lumia

It looks like Microsoft and Nokia have more plans to develop Android-powered devices, if rumours are to be believed that is. @evleaks over at Twitter reported we will be seeing an Android-powered Lumia in the future from what will be called as Nokia by Microsoft. It isn’t known if the device will also feature a forked version of Android or a full-fledged Android operating system. I guess we have to wait to find out. @evleaks has been known to release some accurate leaks in the past but you must take this tip with a grain of salt still.

Nokia Lumia sales drop from 8.8 million to 8.2 million Q4 2013

Nokia closes its last year as a full-fledged handset manufacturer on a sad note. Ubergizmo reports the Finnish company reported a $270 million loss for fourth quarter of 2013 and sales of both smartphone and feature phones have declined in the last quarter of the year. The sale of Lumia smartphones dipped by 600,000 units from third quarter of 2013 as Nokia sold 8.2 million units in Q4 of 2013. Nokia will not disclose how many Asha feature phones they have sold in the past quarter.

Nokia agreed to sell its device unit to Microsoft with the deal expected to close by the end of this quarter.

Nokia starts rolling out Lumia Amber update

Nokia is finally releasing its Lumia Amber update to a number of its Windows Phone 8 devices. Aside from getting Microsoft’s latest version of Windows Phone 8, the update contains some Nokia-specific app additions such as Smart Camera and Pro Camera apps as well as the Glance software.

Smart Camera software originally came out with the Lumia 925 and it adds motion focus picture options. The new Pro Camera app, which came out recently with the Lumia 1020, is going to be made available for the Lumia 920, 925, and 928. Glance software has a clock on the lock screen and allows users to double tap the device to wake it up. It also lets Lumia users flip the phone to silence it and mute incoming calls.

The rollout began with Lumia 920 and 820 in selected countries and Lumia 521, 820, and 928 in the US. Nokia aims to make the update available to all its Windows Phone 8 smartphones by the end of September.
