8,700 2nd-gen Ring Video Doorbells get recalled due to fire hazard

Source: Ring

The second-generation Ring Video Doorbells sold in Canada are being recalled due to fire or burn hazards. According to Health Canada, 8,700 units of the affected product were sold in the country. These were sold from June through October 2020. The doorbell's battery can overheat when the incorrect screws are used for installation. If the doorbell is installed correctly, it will not pose a problem.

Health Canada explains the hazard in this alert: "The Ring Video Doorbells (2nd Gen) come with both security and wood screws for installation. If the wood screws are used in place of the security screws during installation, the battery can be damaged and may overheat, posing a potential fire or burn hazard."
