Reports of S9 touchscreen dead zones surface, Samsung looking into the issue

The Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9 Plus have just gone on sale recently and it’s not without its issues. Reports have surfaced that some units are suffering from unresponsive touchscreens with dead zones being identified across S9 screens. The reports are being made across forums like Reddit and XDA but it isn’t clear how widespread the issue is. Some people claim the top part of the device doesn’t respond to touch inputs while others are saying the bottom of the screen doesn’t work. It’s not only an inconvenience but with a full-display device like this, it would be particularly debilitating.

Samsung has issued a statement on the matter. A spokesperson said, "At Samsung, customer satisfaction is core to our business and we aim to deliver the best possible experience. We are looking into a limited number of reports of Galaxy S9/S9+ touchscreen responsiveness issues. We are working with affected customers and investigating. We encourage any customer with questions to contact us directly at 1-800-SAMSUNG."

Leaked image of the Galaxy S9 show up online

Looks like Samsung doesn’t want to change things up too much with the upcoming version of its flagship—at least if we are to believe the renders that renowned leaker Evan Blass shared. At first glass the Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9 Plus look rather similar to its predecessor. But this time there are more cameras and sensors above the screen. We won’t be surprised if they improve the face unlock capability of the device. And if a portrait mode similar to the ones we’ve seen on the Pixel 2 and iPhone X appear, we won’t be surprised either. As Engadget points out, the bezels do seem somewhat larger than those in the S8. But this is something we have to take a closer look at first. Thankfully, the wait isn’t that long as Samsung is set to unveil the new flagships next month.

Samsung rumoured to release Galaxy S9 at the start of March 2018

Looks like Samsung is getting more confident that it’s back to business for them as the South Korean company reverts to its standard launch pattern for previous flagships—at least according to this new report. Aside from launching the rumoured Galaxy S9 and S9 Plus at Mobile World Congress, which will run from February 26 to March 1, we are supposedly expected to see the new devices go on retail on March 11, at least in South Korea and the US. If Samsung follows tradition, they’ll launch the S9 phones on February 28, giving them just two weeks for the phone to go officially on sale.

Samsung pushed back the sale of the S8 last year following the self-imposed pause the company took to after investigation over the Galaxy Note7 had to happen. But it looks like the company is ready to get right back to business and with the S9 seen as an incremental update to the S8. Plus, with no big issues plaguing the current flagship, there isn’t anything hampering them from going about things as scheduled.
