Samsung rumoured to unveil Galaxy S9 and S9+ on February 26

Samsung Galaxy S8

While we already know that Samsung will be unveiling its new flagship, the Galaxy S9 and S9+, at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, we don’t have the exact date. According to famous leaker Evan Blass, the phone will be launched on February 26. He got this information from a “C-level executive at a major casemaker.” According to his anonymous source, pre-orders will start three days after. The global release and shipment will supposedly happen on March 16.

Samsung rumoured to release Galaxy S9 at the start of March 2018

Looks like Samsung is getting more confident that it’s back to business for them as the South Korean company reverts to its standard launch pattern for previous flagships—at least according to this new report. Aside from launching the rumoured Galaxy S9 and S9 Plus at Mobile World Congress, which will run from February 26 to March 1, we are supposedly expected to see the new devices go on retail on March 11, at least in South Korea and the US. If Samsung follows tradition, they’ll launch the S9 phones on February 28, giving them just two weeks for the phone to go officially on sale.

Samsung pushed back the sale of the S8 last year following the self-imposed pause the company took to after investigation over the Galaxy Note7 had to happen. But it looks like the company is ready to get right back to business and with the S9 seen as an incremental update to the S8. Plus, with no big issues plaguing the current flagship, there isn’t anything hampering them from going about things as scheduled.

Case renders show Samsung Galaxy S9+ comes with dual camera setup

New leaks from Olixar and MobileFun give us a glimpse of what the upcoming Samsung flagships are going to look like. And it seems there is a stark difference between the Galaxy S9 and S9+. Olixar’s renders show the S9 and S9+ with “ultra thin, 100% clear” cases that hardly cover up anything about the devices. And as we can see, the big difference is the plus model is the only one with a dual camera. In the S7 and S8, the only difference between the two models were screen size and battery. As seen in the renders, the fingerprint sensor has been relegated to below the camera with the LED flash and heart rate monitor off to the side.

According to GSMArena, this confirms a rumour that claims Samsung wants to have a three-tier flagship lineup instead of the simple S/Note division. As for how this will affect pricing, we don’t know yet.

Samsung rumoured to be teasing Samsung Galaxy S9 models at CES 2018

Review: Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8+

With the current generation Samsung Galaxy out and about for months already, people are looking towards the next best thing. Rumours about the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S9 have been circling for a while. Now, a new report from VentureBeat gives away more details and a possible earlier announcement from the South Korean company. The S9 will supposedly be iterative in terms of design the smaller model (SM-G960) is codenamed Star 1 and will have the same 5.8-inch curved AMOLED display, while the S9+ (SM-G965) is codenamed Star 2 and will feature a 6.2-inch screen. It’ll supposedly run on a Snapdragon 845 processor with a 10-nanometer chip. It’s said the phone will make “their first public appearance” at CES but will have a separate launch in March.

Some of the other new features reportedly coming to the device is that the dual-camera setup similar to the Note8 will only be available on the S9+, while the S9 will stick to the single camera setup. And finally the fingerprint sensor will reportedly be moved to the bottom of the camera sensor instead of beside it. RAM will be 4GB on the S9 versus 6GB on the S9+. Both will have 64GB internal storage that’s expandable via microSD and will supposedly retain the 3.5mm audio jack. There will also be AKG stereo speakers and a new DeX docking station supposedly in the works where the S9 will serve as a touchpad or virtual keyboard.
