Don’t expect a second season of ‘The Defenders’ anytime soon

Perhaps the low numbers The Defenders has pulled in terms of viewership has dissuaded Marvel and Netflix from making another season. But Marvel TV head Jeph Loeb has said during a Reddit “Ask Me Anything” session that it’s “not in the plans right now, but you never know!” The show is labeled as a “limited series” on Netflix and had eight for its first season, which started streaming last August.

While we might not see the superheroes together, Marvel and Netflix has since dropped the first season of The Punisher and the second season of Jessica Jones. Luke Cage’s second season is coming this month, while Iron Fist season two is coming in late 2018. Daredevil’s third season is also coming later this year.

How non-comic book fans find their way to Netflix’s Marvel shows

With The Defenders fresh out of Netflix’s and Marvel’s oven, the streaming service is giving us a bit of an insight on how even non-comic book fans are getting hooked into the Marvel shows. Their biggest aide? Netflix’s algorithm. According to Netflix, 80 percent of show discovery on the service is through Netflix recommendations. Here’s the final ‘The Defenders’ trailer as show starts streaming on August 18th

Marvel’s The Defenders is set to hit Netflix tomorrow, August 18th. Before that we get one last look at what the new series has to offer. We get to see just how threatening and menacing Sigourney Weaver’s Alexandra really is. Marvel’s The Defenders follows Matt Murdock/Daredevil (Charlie Cox), Jessica Jones (Krysten Ritter), Luke Cage (Mike Colter), and Danny Rand/Iron Fist (Finn Jones) as they try and save New York from baddies like Alexandra. We get to see these four solitary heroes with their own personal baggage try to work together.

‘Marvel’s Iron Fist’ gets first trailer

Just before the new Netflix Marvel show hits the service on March 17, we get a look of what we can expect from Marvel’s Iron Fist. The first full trailer for the series introduces Danny Rand (Finn Jones) to us who is on a mission to reclaim his family’s company in New York City after being away for 15 years. And for those like me who are uninitiated about the lore of Iron Fist, we wonder why he’s been away for so long and what brings him back with a grasp of mystical martial arts. While we don’t know the conditions, what we do know is Rand’s story ties into the other Netflix Marvel shows Daredevil, Luke Cage, and Jessica Jones. And we’ll all see them together in The Defenders later this year. Are you looking forward to this?
