Twitch's TikTok-inspired discovery feed arrives this month

Image: Twitch

After a year of testing, Twitch is finally launching its discovery feed to all mobile app users this month. This exciting new feature takes inspiration from TikTok, promising a more engaging way to find content. The feed is divided into two sections: live streams and clips. Scroll through content from creators you follow, alongside personalized recommendations from Twitch's algorithm. Discover new favourites and catch the latest action with ease. Like something you see? Simply tap the streamer's avatar to jump into theatre mode and join the live broadcast.

The clips section is your one-stop shop for bite-sized highlights from Twitch streams. Find funny moments, epic gameplay, and more. If a clip sparks your interest, you can see if the streamer is currently live and dive deeper into their content. While you won't escape the occasional ad within the feed, Twitch assures viewers they can keep scrolling without interruption.

Twitch won't let banned users view your streams anymore

Twitch is introducing a new feature that will let streamers block banned users from watching their streams. According to Senior Product Manager Trevor Fisher, streamers can opt to prevent their banned chatters from viewing their stream. He revealed this on Twitch’s Patch Notes podcast. The feature will be available in the next few weeks.

He also explained how the feature would work: “If you ban somebody and they’re currently watching, then the stream playback will be interrupted for them so that they immediately lose the ability to view the stream. And then if you go offline, you stream again, they won’t be able to watch your subsequent streams either until you choose to un-ban them.” This change would apply whether the streamer or a moderator banned the user.

Twitch is now accessible on the Nintendo Switch

Twitch has finally come to the Nintendo Switch, allowing you to watch live streams on this handheld. You will get the same functionality available on other consoles, like on-demand videos. The app is for watching streams but not for streaming. After all, the device doesn't have a camera, and you'll need to route video through a PC to create content with it.
