Windows 10 is making up almost 10 % of desktop OS market share

A report released today claims that Windows 10 has a 9.96 per cent share of the desktop OS market. The report from Net Applications explains that there has been a steady adoption rate since Windows 10 was made available and mostly for free in July 2015. Windows 10 is famously used on all devices ranging from PC sticks to smartphones, tablets, 2-in-1's, Ultrabooks, notebooks, desktops, the Xbox One, Hololens and even the large Surface Hub.

Windows 7 is still the dominant OS as per the report, with a 55.68 per cent share, Windows XP still has 10.93 per cent market share and Windows 8.1 owns 10.30 per cent share. Windows 10 is installed on 200 million devices and is on track to get 1 billion installs in three years, a target Microsoft announced during the OS's launch.

Microsoft simplifies Windows 10 upgrading options

WIndows 10 has been a blockbuster for Microsoft with over 110 milllion installs since the new OS shipped in June. The update is free to many Windows 7 and Windows 8 customers even if it may or may not be completely compatible with their hardware.

Terry Myerson, Microsoft's executive vice president of the Windows and Devices Group, shared a number of ways in which Microsoft is making it easier to upgrade to Windows 10, based on learning over the past few months in a blog post titled "Making it easier to Upgrade to Windows 10." Windows 10 is now installed on 75 Million devices

Microsoft's Windows 10 OS has been out for around a month and is already installed on 75 Million devices. Part of the reason for this success is that Windows 10 is made available as a free update for eligible Windows 7 and Windows 8/8.1 users. Looks like Microsoft is well on their way to their target of 2 billion installs in two to three years.

Other fun facts about Windows 10:

·         More than 75 million devices are now running Windows 10 – and growing every day.
·         More than 90,000 unique PC or tablet models have upgraded to Windows 10.
·         More than 122 years of gameplay have streamed from Xbox One to Windows 10 devices.
·         Windows Store for Windows 10 has seen 6X more app downloads per device than Windows 8.
