Nokia launches Lumia 1020 Windows Phone with 41 megapixel camera and advanced photo apps

Nokia unveiled the successor to the flagship Lumia 920/925 smartphones in New York City today. The Lumia 1020 features an unprecedented 41 megapixel sensor, the first for a Windows Phone (Nokia sold the Pureview 808 Symbian phone in certain markets last year and that device had 41 megapixels as well).

Then Lumia 1020 is said to feature  the "largest back side illuminated sensor available on a smartphone." It also has a Gorilla Glass 3 covered  4.5-inch 1,280 x 768 pixels (at a 16:9 aspect ratio) AMOLED PureMotion HD+ display.  In terms of apps, the Nokia Pro Camera app is what pushes the envelope in terms of functionality. Allowing users to manually adjust flash, ISO, focus,  shutter speed, white balance and exposure, it is the best way to optimize the camera's optics and approximate a standalone camera. Add the Carl Zeiss optics, improved stabilization and this is one capable cameraphone, at least in terms of specs. We're still waiting on when the Lumia 1020 will come to Canada and with which carrier.

Keek social video service extends its mobile reach, launches on Windows Phone 8

The first true social video sharing service is Canadian-made Keek. It launched about two years ago and has since been made cross-platform (available on iOS, Android, and BlackBerry 10 as well), which helped it grow to a strong 50 million users. Two days ago, Keek announced that they would be the first social video sharing service to launch on the Windows Phone 8 platform, offering those users' the ability to to upload and share footage recorded on their smartphones. Keek gained popularity earlier this year, prior to the Vine's and Instagram videos of the world, when it became the first celebrity-used social video sharing service.

Nokia's Lumia 520 now available in Canada on Rogers, Koodo and TELUS

This innovative and affordable smartphone offers free navigation and exclusive digital lenses, features normally found in high-end smartphones in a 4-inch device. The Nokia Lumia 520 is available today at Rogers (please visit rogers.com for full pricing details). The device is also available at Koodo on May 9^th in black for $150 or $0 on the tab. On May 17^th, it will be available at TELUS in black for $149 with a TELUS pre-paid plan.
