Warner Bros. fast-tracks 'Wonder Woman 3,' Patty Jenkins and Gal Gadot back on board

Source: Warner Bros.

Warner Bros. is happy enough with the response to Wonder Woman 1984 that it is fast-tracking the third and final Wonder Woman film. Gal Gadot will reprise her role as Diana Prince/Wonder Woman, and Patty Jenkins will write and direct the movie again.

“As fans around the world continue to embrace Diana Prince, driving the strong opening weekend performance of Wonder Woman 1984, we are excited to be able [to] continue her story with our real-life Wonder Women—Gal and Patty—who will return to conclude the long-planned theatrical trilogy,” Warner Bros. Chairman Toby Emmerich said in a statement.

'Wonder Woman 1984' will be available for VOD rental in Canada alongside theatrical release

Even if you can't come to theatres to watch Wonder Woman 1984 this Christmas Day, you'll still be able to watch it at home. Warner Bros. Pictures is pushing through with its "hybrid release strategy" in Canada as it'll be available for video-on-demand rental the same day it will debut in movie theatres. This move comes after Warner initially announced that WW84 would only be available in Canadian cinemas, even though many of them are closed because of COVID-19 restrictions.

Due to "varying market restrictions," Warner decided to go with this new release option so it can reach more viewers. Wonder Woman 1984 will come with a $29.99 rental price for 48 hours. But Warner hasn't mentioned which platforms will carry the film. The studio shifted the movie's December 25 premiere to its HBO Max streaming service in the US, causing quite a stir there. HBO Max isn't available here, though.

Here's the first trailer for 'Wonder Woman 1984'

While it's still many months away, we finally get our first look at the sequel to Warner Brothers hit and DC superhero Wonder Woman. This full trailer for Patty Jenkins' Wonder Woman 1984 gives us our first look at Gal Gadot as she reprises her role as Diana Prince/Wonder Woman as well as co-star Chris Pine as Steve Trevor, who also makes a return from the first film. The trailer gives us our first look at Kristen Wiig as archaeologist Cheetah and Pedro Pascal as Maxwell Lord.

We're also given our first look at Wonder Woman's badass Golden Eagle Armor, which first came from DC Elseworlds story, "Kingdom Come," written by Mark Waid and illustrated by Alex Ross. The trailer shows us what Diana has in store for her, but it doesn't give away too much. Unfortunately, we have to wait until June 2020 to find out.

Indian actress Soundarya Sharma joins ‘Wonder Woman 1984’ cast

Another name is being added to the roster of actors joining the upcoming Wonder Woman sequel. This time, the new actress might not be a household name globally but being part of this high profile superhero film might change that. Indian actress Soundarya Sharma joins the cast of Wonder Woman 1984 in an unidentified role. Sharma is expected to come in and start filming at the end of October. Sharma told TheHindu.com a bit about how she feels about being cast and it suggests she plays a substantial role in the movie.  She said, “This I can say is a ‘dream coming true’ situation. It’s exhilarating to be a part of such a larger than life character film where you get to play your dream role. I have always dreamt of playing such a character and idolised it.”

Sharma will be joining returning actors Gal Gadot and Chris Pine for this Patty Jenkins’ directed film. Another newcomer to the franchise is comedian Kristen Wiig, who will be playing the villain Cheetah. Other new cast members include Narcos’ Pedro Pascal and Ravi Patel.
