The Weeknd will host an AR virtual concert on TikTok on Aug. 7

For the first time, TikTok will be hosting an augmented-reality, live-streamed concert featuring Grammy Award-winning Canadian singer The Weeknd. He will be performing songs from his newest hit album After Hours. "The Weeknd Experience" is brought together by TikTok together with XO, Republic Records and virtual concert startup Wave. It will stream exclusively on the platform over at the @tiktok account on Friday, August 7, at 8:30 p.m. ET/5:30 p.m. PT. Fans can expect to see 3D renderings and picture-in-picture video used to create what's going to be an immersive live stream. And like with other TikTok live streams, viewers can interact in real-time, too.

The event will raise funds for the Equal Justice Initiative, which supports racial equality. Fans can donate directly from the app leading up to and during the show. TikTok said it would match the funds "up to a generous amount." And those who want to remember the experience can buy exclusive merchandise from August 6 until 10 only, with proceeds from the sales going to the Equal Justice Initiative.

Apple CFO confirms new iPhones coming late by a 'few weeks'

As the rumours have suggested, it looks like the next-generation iPhones will be arriving late after all. Apple's Chief Financial Officer Luca Maestri confirmed during a customary post-earnings conference call that new iPhones would come later than usual. He said, "As you know, last year we started selling new iPhones in late September. This year, we project supply to be available a few weeks later." While the company doesn't release all new iPhones when it holds its launch in September, it will be the first time all iPhone models will miss this release window. It isn't even clear if the company will host a launch event for the phone in the same month, or wait until the new phones are ready. At this point, it's an unexpected outcome from an unexpected year.

Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra running on Exynos spotted on Geekbench

Leaked image of the Samsung Galaxy Note 20

The deluge of Samsung-related rumours and leaks continue. The latest is on the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra running on the improved Exynos 990 chipset, which was spotted on Geekbench. The device has the same SM-N986B model number, which was seen before. It comes with 12GB of RAM and runs on Android 10 (presumably skinned with One UI 2.5). It garnered 928 points in the single-core and 2,271 in the multi-core tests, which means its comparable with the Exynos-powered Galaxy S20 Ultra. But it falls behind devices running on Qualcomm Snapdragon 865+ processor. What the Exynos chip promises to bring to the Note 20 line is better heat management and power efficiency, which should lead to more noticeable performance gains over the existing Exynos 990 processor. We're going to learn more about the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra and other Samsung devices at the August 5 Unpacked event.

While we are getting the LG Velvet 5G next month, it looks like there's a third variant of the smartphone. A Google Play Console listing shows the LG Velvet running on MediaTek's Dimensity 800 processor. Everything else about the phone seems to match the 5G and regular versions of the handset. According to the listing, it still has an FHD+ screen, 6GB of RAM, and Android 10. We're sure to hear more about the device if it launches.
