The Apple Beat: 10 years ago a very different iMac was launched

Every now and then I like to go back in time and reprint an old story from my early Apple coverage. It is interesting to see how things were back then when Apple was still  in recovery mode. This was 2002, the iPod had already been launched and the the Mac was the 'Digital Hub'. "Jaguar" (OS X 10.2 was the current OS) Compaq and IBM still made computers and PDAs were all the rage. Instagram expands to profile pages for users

"We're launching Web profiles to give you a simple way to share your photos with more people and to make it easier to discover new users on the Web," Instagram said in a blog post.

The profile pages will give Instagram's 100 million users a way to directly view and appreciate their shared photos on the web. A long awaited feature, web profiles can't be used to upload or post photos since that would alter the mobile nature of Instagram's image sharing focus.

Mobilicity products now available in Food Basics

On the heels of upgrading its network to 4G and announcing that its regular rates plans are 50%-off for a limited time, Mobilicity announced it has expanded its National Retail Program with Food Basics.

The value-based unlimited wireless carrier has opened full-service kiosks in four Food Basics stores in Toronto.

3 Million iPads sold over the weekend, biggest weekend debut yet

Some pundits scoffed at the shorter than usual lines in front of the Apple Retail Stores claiming this as a sign that the demand for iPad mini was low. They forgot to  meintion that thte iPad mini sold out of preorders within days and even ran out of stock during the weekend in various stores in the US.

Apple today announced it has sold three million iPads in just three days since the launch of its new iPad mini and fourth generation iPad—double the previous first weekend milestone of 1.5 million Wi-Fi only models sold for the third generation iPad in March.
