Review: HTC Flyer 7" inch 16GB WiFi tablet

Text and photos Gadjo Cardenas Sevilla

At first glance, one could find many things wrong with the HTC Flyer WiFi tablet. It runs a non-tablet version of Android, it uses a single-core Snapdragon processor, its screen is only 7" inches wide and it has a $80 digital pen that works mostly on HTC Sense overlay.

So, why is it one of the most desirable devices we've seen in a long time? We spent a week with HTC Flyer and tried to dig deeper.

Video: Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 inch overview

A quick walkthrough of the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 inch tablet demoed during Samsung's summer showcase in Toronto. Here are our first impressions on the device.

  • Exceedingly thin and light, very similar physical feel to the iPad 2 except for the mostly plastic white case
  • Makes most other 10.1" inch Android tablets look positively chunky
  • Samsung has baked in a lot of goodness such as improved camera controls and a file system viewer
  • Because of its thinness, size and widescreen it looks a lot smaller than it actually is
  • Performance is reasonably fast although not too different from the Motorola XOOM which is available now and costs $499 for the 32GB version.
  • Samsung showed off  4G Data enabled version at a recent event which hints we might see one on a Canadian carrier, likely Rogers.
  • Accessories will include a keyboard dock that makes it look like a netbook, some sweet connectors that allow USB input and an array of Samsung and 3rd party cases.

First Look: Samsung Galaxy S II and Infuse Android smartphones

Today was a good day for device previews. We checked out Samsung's dynamic duo, the Samsung Galaxy S II super-slim dual-core Android smartphone (with a stunning 4.3" inch super AMOLED Plus screen). The Galaxy S II has an 8 megapixel rear camera plus 3D TouchWiz UI over Android OS.

The Samsung Infuse ups the ante in terms of screen size with a 4.5" inch super AMOLED Plus screen and 4G data capability. A bit thicker than the Galaxy S II, the Infuse clearly looks more like a Galaxy Tab 7" than a smartphone but it is overall an impressive product. Stay tuned for walkthrough videos.
