Apple exec confirms future iPhones to comply with EU's USB-C mandate

If you have been waiting for Apple to shift to USB-C for its iPhones, you'll be happy to hear that will happen soon. Greg Joswiak, Apple's senior vice president of marketing, confirmed the company would comply with the European Parliament's mandate requiring phone makers to adopt USB-C connectors for their devices starting in 2024. Joswiak spoke at Wall Street Journal's WSJ Tech Live event, stopping short of expounding on its plans for this change.

Apple introduced its lightning connector almost 10 years ago, using it as a primary connector for its devices, including the iPhone, iPad, and AirPods. Apple introduced USB-C first with the iPad, starting a couple of years ago. The new baseline iPad sports this universal connector.

Amazon Prime Video teases 'Fallout' show

Source: Prime Video

In time to celebrate Fallout's 25th anniversary, Amazon Prime Video and Kilter Films shared its first look from its upcoming Fallout series. The photo shows the inside of a just-opened Vault. We see a mysterious figure standing outside and looking at the Vault dwellers in the frame. These dwellers are wearing Vault 33 jumpsuits. Plot details are sparse beyond this teaser image.

Lisa Joy and Jonathan Nolan, the creators behind the Westworld reboot, are adapting this video game series and serving as head writers. Todd Howard joins as executive producer, and the series stars Walton Goggins, Kyle MacLachlan, and Ella Purnell. Goggins will reportedly play a character "based on the ghouls."

Nothing opens first brick-and-mortar store in London

Source: Nothing

Nothing is bringing something to its home market. The tech startup is opening its first brick-and-mortar store in London's Soho district. The company has launched the Ear (1) and Phone (1) in the past year. And it's about to introduce another pair of earbuds soon. And we are expecting to see that in the store with an image of it blown up in its window with the words saying it'll be open "before Christmas."

The press release for this new store mentions how the Nothing storefront is down the road from a Supreme store, which speaks of founder Carl Pei's vision to create a brand that merges fashion with consumer tech. And it has been playing on this artificial scarcity product launch approach we typically see in sneaker culture. Speaking of which, the Nothing store will make available 100 numbered Ear (stick) earbuds.

The Ultra will reportedly get 24 CPU cores and 76 GPU cores, while the Extreme variant gets 48 CPU cores and 152 GPU cores, with a maximum of 256GB of unified memory. In comparison, the base M2 chips available in the latest MacBook Air and 13-inch MacBook Pro have an 8-core CPU and a 10-core GPU.
