Google Pixel 7, 7 Pro only support 64-bit apps

Android devices that support 64-bit apps typically support legacy 32-bit ones, too. But this time, Google opted out of offering that option. The Google Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro are the first ones to support 64-bit apps exclusively. According to the company, dropping support for 32-bit apps allow these phones to reduce RAM usage and boost performance and security. Google believes the Android ecosystem is ready for this transition and expects other devices to follow suit in the future.

Google says this configuration is faster because 64-bit apps can access instructions and resources that 32-bit apps can't. It claims modern CPUs can offer up to 25% faster performance when 32-bit support is dropped. And it frees up 150MB of RAM, which 32-bit apps use whether they're running or not. Google encourages developers to start testing apps and updates for 64-bit-only devices. It offers developer tools for testing compatibility issues with the new configuration. Meanwhile, 32-bit-only devices will continue to serve Android Go, Android TV, and Android Wear.

Telegram won't push through with its monetization plans due to Apple's App Store rules

Telegram had plans to help content creators monetize their posts. But the company wanted to do it through Telegram's payment system instead of Apple's, meaning it'll bypass its 30% fee for developers. Apple wasn't happy with this plan, especially since it goes after its rules. So, Telegram has to cancel for now but says it'll look for ways users can monetize content on its app outside of Apple's ecosystem.

'Resident Evil Village' comes to macOS, works exclusively on Apple Silicon Macs

Apple announced its new Metal 3 API back at WWDC 2022 with the capability to support a new category of games for the Mac. One of the first titles to take advantage of this tech is Resident Evil Village, which is now available on the Mac. The game is categorized as a AAA title, given it's developed for consoles like the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X. But with Metal 3 and MetalFX, Apple Silicon-powered Macs can run the game smoothly.

Resident Evil Village is the eighth title in the Resident Evil franchise. You control a character looking for his kidnapped daughter. Expect a lot of action with collectible weapons and enemies, including screaming gargoyles, snarling werewolves, and other monsters. Reside Evil Village retails for $54.99 on the Mac App Store.

10th-gen iPad's USB-C transfer speeds are limited to Lightning speeds

While this won't affect many users, you might want to know that the USB-C port in the new base model iPad doesn't get the speedy transfer speeds of this port. Apple is limiting the transfer speeds at "USB 2.0 data speeds." That is at 480Mbps, which is the same speed offered by Lightning connector on the ninth-gen iPad.

But this connection still allows external monitor support up to 30 frames per second for a 4K resolution or up to 60fps for 1080p. It is still far off from the Thunderbolt USB-C connections of the iPad Pro, which goes up to 40Gbps. Those on the iPad Air and iPad mini go up to 10Gbps and 5Gbps, respectively. If transfering large files is a big part of your workflow, you might have to reconsider which iPad to get.
