Acer brings stereoscopic 3D to its new SpatialLabs external monitors

Acer

Acer has a couple of new external monitors with what is typically deemed "gimmicky" features. The new SpatialLabs View and View Pro are standalone 15.6-inch 4K monitors with glasses-free stereoscopic 3D technology. Acer has previously included this tech in ConceptD notebooks, but it hasn't brought it to this format yet.

The standard SpatialLabs View is designed for entertainment use, while the Pro is for commercial users. The former gets the SpatialLabs TrueGame portal for playing 3D games. The app gives each of the 50 or so 3D-compatible games a pre-configured profile to help the games feel more immersive. You can expect some of the big titles: Forza Horizon 5The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, and God of War.

HP's Omen 16 gaming laptop gets improved cooling

HP has just refreshed the Omen 16 almost a year after it was introduced. Now, it gets thermal upgrades. It adds a fifth heat pipe and a fourth outflow vent. Adding these can reduce GPU hinge and bottom SSD temperatures by 3% and 14%, respectively, while making the laptop 5% quieter. HP claims GPU and CPU performance has been boosted, too.

There's also now a Dynamic Power feature in the Omen Gaming Hub. The company uses a built-in IR thermopile sensor to monitor CPU and GPU capacity in real-time and allocate power when needed. This should optimize in-game framerates and boost CPU performance by up to 36% compared to the 2021 model.

The Omen 16 can house up to an Intel Core i9-12900H series processor or AMD Ryzen 9 6900HX mobile processor. As for graphics, it can support up to an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 Ti or AND Ryzen RX 6650M. You can max out RAM up to 32GB (DDR5) and storage up to 2TB SSD.

For the display, you can top it up at a 1440p 165Hz IPS display with a 3ms response time and 100% sRGB colour gamut. Its keyboard gets a per-key RGB lighting and a white colour option for the shell. Pricing starts at US$1,200 (around CA$1,540).

Google launches AI tool to help you practice for job interviews

We need to say this out of the gate, but it's currently only available in the US. Google has launched an Interview Warmup tool that uses AI to help you prep for job interviews in different roles. It's geared specifically at Google Career Certificates users, and many of the role-specific questions reflect this. However, there are still the typical "Tell me a bit about yourself" questions.

It will analyze your voice or typed responses to tell you which areas you need to improve. You'll find out if you overuse certain words or need to spend more time talking about specific subjects. If it delivers on its promises, it'll be a handy resource for polishing interview skills.
