Apple's digital car keys tipped to work with Hyundai, Genesis models this summer

Source: Apple

Apple's digital car key feature might unlock more than a few BMW models. Bloomberg's Mark Gurman reports in his latest newsletter that Hyundai and its premium Genesis brand will support Apple CarKey "by the summer." It isn't known what models might support the feature, but as Engadget pointed out, some trim levels of the Ioniq 5 and other Hyundai models have NFC for a digital key, which is currently proprietary.

If the leak is accurate, then Hyundai and Genesis owners will have an easier way to unlock their vehicles. They just need to bring the phone or Apple Watch to the door handle to unlock it. Those using ultra-wideband iPhones (like the iPhone 11 and newer) can keep their phone in their pockets when opening and starting the car.

Withings Body Scan connected scale measures body composition, nerve activity, and more

Source: Withings

French company Withings recently introduced its most advanced smart scale to date. The new Body Scan can monitor and measure ECG, weight, segmented body composition, and even nerve activity. It's made with high-strength tempered glass similar to the Body Cardio, but it gets extra sensors to help you learn more about what's going on in your body.

It has four weight sensors, 14 Indium tin oxide (ITO) electrodes within the platform, and four stainless steel electrodes on the new handle.

The handle can pass through safe, low-level electrical signals to your entire body, allowing a new 6-lead ECG to detect heart arrhythmias via these electrodes and those on the base of the scale. An embedded algorithm can detect heart patterns associated with atrial fibrillation.

Apple will reportedly add last MacBook Pro with CD Drive to vintage products list

Source: MacRumors

The last MacBook Pro model with a CD drive will be added to Apple's vintage product list by the end of the month (January 31). According to an internal memo obtained by MacRumorsApple wants to label the mid-2021 13-inch MacBook Pro laptop as a vintage device. These kinds of products used to be ineligible for repairs in most regions. But now, Apple Stores and Apple Authorized Service Providers can offer repairs for vintage products up to seven years. That's subject to parts availability, of course.

This 13-inch MacBook Pro model was the last Mac to launch with a built-in CD/DVD drive, and it remained on sale until October 2016. Apple also dropped support for this model with macOS Big Sur in 2020.
